What is sublimation printing?

Sublimation printing is a versatile and innovative digital printing method that offers vibrant and long-lasting prints on various substrates, such as polyester fabrics, ceramics, metals, and synthetic materials. Here's how the sublimation printing process works:

1.Design Preparation:

The process begins with the creation or selection of a design. The design is then digitally drawn or printed onto specialized sublimation transfer paper using sublimation inks. These inks are formulated to sublimate, or transition directly from a solid to a gas, under heat and pressure.

2.Transfer Process:

Once the design is printed onto the transfer paper, it is placed onto the surface of the substrate to be printed.

3.Heat Press Application:

The substrate, along with the transfer paper and printed design, is then placed into a heat press machine. The heat press applies heat and pressure to the substrate, typically at temperatures ranging from 350°F to 400°F (177°C to 204°C).

4.Sublimation Process:

As the heat press applies heat to the transfer paper, the sublimation inks transition from a solid to a gas without passing through a liquid phase. This sublimation process occurs due to the combination of heat and pressure, causing the dye molecules to penetrate the surface of the substrate and bond with its fibers or coating.

5.Chemical Connection:

The sublimation inks form a chemical connection with the substrate, becoming ingrained in its surface rather than sitting on top of it. This results in a seamless and smooth texture, with the design appearing as part of the substrate itself. Unlike other printing methods, sublimation printing creates prints that do not feel uneven or raised, and the texture appears much smoother.
